Loving oneself is the foundation for loving another person.” from Thich Nhat Hanh’s Your True Home
As a parent, I’m role modeling self-care to my daughter. I cannot expect her to learn from just my words alone. I must show her how it is done – or not done. The behavior must match the words. This is not a simple task.
this is so beautiful. a meditation for the new year. i will return to this again and again. why does it take so long to learn….
I don’t know why so long….and it does not end, even when your kids and are not kids. Stay with it everyone. Hi, B. M.
I think it must take so long because so many of us are trying to break old molds. And we can’t underestimate the power of the small examples!!!!!
That’s so true…I beginning to learn how to love myself, take good care of myself, and create the overflow to then love others. What helped me lots in this area was…”What are the words that my heartlongs to hear?”…and then BE that person that tells me those words–be the one! The old way was just wait and hope someone tells me these words my heart longs to hear. Self talk is huge.
